Same-day capacity check

LAST-MINUTE
DOG BOARDING

Work trip, family emergency, hospital, sudden travel — when you need overnight care for your dog today or tomorrow morning. Text 647-551-2633 first to confirm capacity. Free phone evaluation, e-transfer locks dates, drop-off same day or next morning. $90/day at Paddock Estate (Pickering).

When you need it now

A sudden work trip out of Pearson tomorrow morning. A parent hospitalized in Scarborough. A family emergency that puts you on a plane in 6 hours. A contractor flooding the basement. A partner's plans changing without notice. These are not edge cases — they are the most common reasons GTA owners call The Dogfather first. We don't need to know which one applies. We need to know whether your dog fits the protocol and whether we have a slot.

The fast intake — under 30 minutes

  1. Text 647-551-2633 — breed, age, dates needed. Capacity confirmed within minutes during business hours.
  2. Free 10-minute phone evaluation — vaccine status, current routine, any medical or behavioural notes. Honest read on whether same-day intake works.
  3. E-transfer to support@dogfather.ca — full stay cost upfront, non-refundable. This is how the slot is held.
  4. Drop-off — same day or next morning at Scarborough or Paddock Estate (Pickering). Your choice.

What we need from you

  • Vaccine records (Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella) — phone photo of vet card is fine
  • Your dog's regular food for the full stay (no diet changes during travel stress)
  • A flat collar (no harness)
  • A leash
  • Any current medication with clear dosing instructions
  • Honest behavioural disclosure — bite history, reactivity, fear triggers (we'd rather know)
  • Optional: a worn t-shirt with your scent for the crate
  • Optional: a favourite chew toy or enrichment item

Capacity disclaimer

Same-day availability is never guaranteed. The Dogfather runs small-batch with a working trainer on-site — that is the product, and it means there is no overflow yard to absorb unlimited short-notice intakes. On long-weekend Fridays and Sundays we are usually full. On a Tuesday afternoon we usually have room. Always text first — never drive over without a confirmation.

If we can't fit you, we'll say so on the first reply — no string-along, no false hope. Better an honest no than a stressed dog at a facility that overbooked.

Repeat clients get booking priority

If your dog has stayed with us before, you skip most of the evaluation — we already know the dog, the routine, and the vaccine file. Short-notice intake for returning clients is usually under 15 minutes from first text to confirmed drop-off. This is the single biggest reason GTA owners book their first stay early — once you're in the system, the next emergency is one text away.

Last-minute boarding FAQ

Can I really get same-day dog boarding in Toronto / GTA?

Yes — when capacity allows. The Dogfather runs small-batch, so we can absorb one or two short-notice intakes most weeks if the dog passes the free phone evaluation (vaccines, no untreated medical, no undisclosed bite history). Text 647-551-2633 first — never assume same-day availability until confirmed. Long-weekend Fridays and Sundays are the hardest to fit.

What counts as a last-minute boarding situation?

Most common: sudden work trip, family medical emergency, owner hospitalized, surprise travel for a funeral, contractor flooding the house, landlord issue, or a partner's plans changing. We do not require an explanation — capacity is the only gate. If we have room, your dog has room.

How do I lock the dates fast?

Four steps, usually under 30 minutes total. (1) Text 647-551-2633 with breed, age, and dates needed. (2) 10-minute free phone evaluation with the trainer — vaccine + behaviour check. (3) E-transfer the full stay cost to support@dogfather.ca (no deposits, no refunds — full upfront is how the slot is held). (4) Drop-off same day or next morning at Scarborough or Pickering, your choice.

What do I need to bring on short notice?

Bring four things minimum: (1) vaccine records (Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella) — a phone photo of the vet card is fine, (2) your dog's regular food for the full stay, (3) a flat collar (no harness — harness reinforces pulling), (4) a leash. Optional but appreciated: any current medication with dosing notes, a worn t-shirt with your scent, a favourite chew toy. We provide everything else — premium crates for rest periods + overnight, bowls, beds, enrichment.

What if you don't have capacity?

We say so on the first text — straight, no time wasted. Repeat clients get priority on the short-notice slots we do have. If we can't fit you, we'll honestly tell you that and suggest you reach out to your usual sitter or a network vet boarder for the night. Better that than overcrowding a small-batch facility and failing your dog.

Do you accept reactive or special-needs dogs on short notice?

Only if there's a prior assessment on file. Reactive Dogs ($200/day) and Special Needs ($250/day) tiers require a free 30-minute in-person assessment before the first stay — same-day intake without that assessment isn't possible because the protocol depends on knowing the dog's triggers, recovery, and medical needs. If you've already done the assessment, short-notice slots in those tiers work the same as standard boarding.
