SUMMER DOG
BOARDING
Toronto and GTA owners travelling July, August, or any summer long weekend — your dog stays at a 20-acre estate with a working trainer on-site 24/7. Heat-managed protocol. AC indoor decompression mid-day. Hydration schedule. From $90/day at Paddock Estate (Pickering).
Why summer is peak boarding demand in the GTA
Three things converge between Canada Day and Labour Day: Toronto-area families travel for cottages, weddings, and overseas trips · long weekends compress demand into 4-day windows · and Ontario summer heatwaves above 30°C make a structured AC-cooled facility a safety requirement, not a luxury. Standard kennels hit capacity fast and either turn dogs away or stack them past the comfortable threshold. The Dogfather runs small-batch with a working trainer on-site — same protocol summer as winter, just tuned for the heat.
Summer protocol — what changes when it's hot
- —Outdoor exercise moves to pre-7 AM and post-7 PM windows on 28°C+ days
- —Mid-day indoor AC decompression replaces yard time during peak heat
- —Hydration check every 90 minutes — written log, fresh cold water
- —Pavement temperature checked before every walk (paw-burn prevention)
- —Brachycephalic breeds (Bulldogs, Frenchies, Pugs, Boxers) get conservative outdoor exposure
- —Indoor enrichment substitutes for outdoor play — frozen Kongs, scent work, settle drills
- —Premium crates used for rest periods + overnight in climate-controlled space
- —Daily photo + 30-second video update sent proactively
- —Vet on speed dial if any heat-stress signs appear
- —20-acre Paddock Estate gives shaded options the rest of the day
Long-weekend availability — book 14 days out
Canada Day · Civic Holiday (first Monday of August) · Labour Day · September long weekend. These four windows fill earliest every summer. Mid-week July and August trips are usually confirmable 5–7 days out. Repeat clients get priority on long-weekend slots. If you've boarded with us before, reach out before the public calendar opens.
5 things to know before boarding your dog during a heatwave
- Don't change your dog's food the week before. Diet change plus travel stress plus heat = GI upset. Bring their normal food.
- Bring a flat collar — not a harness. Harnesses trap heat against the chest and reinforce pulling. Flat collar only.
- Confirm vaccines are current. Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella all need to be in date. Drop off a copy at intake or email support@dogfather.ca in advance.
- Senior or brachycephalic dogs need the Special Needs tier. Pugs, Frenchies, Bulldogs, Boxers, and any senior with reduced heat tolerance fit the $250/day tier with hand-fed schedule and AC priority.
- Lock dates with e-transfer. E-transfer to support@dogfather.ca — full upfront, non-refundable. This is how summer slots get held during peak weeks.

Summer dog boarding FAQ
How early should I book summer dog boarding in Toronto?
Book July long-weekend, Civic Holiday, and Labour Day dates at least 14 days out — those weekends fill first every year. Mid-week July and August summer travel can usually be confirmed 5–7 days ahead. Same-day requests get vetted against current capacity; call 647-551-2633 to check.
What is your summer heatwave protocol?
On forecast days above 28°C: outdoor exercise moves to early-morning and post-sunset only, indoor AC decompression replaces midday yard time, hydration is monitored on a written schedule (water refresh every 90 minutes minimum), paw checks before any pavement work, and brachycephalic breeds (Bulldogs, Frenchies, Pugs, Boxers) get the most conservative outdoor exposure of the group.
How much does summer dog boarding cost in Toronto / GTA?
$90/day standard boarding · $150/day Board & Train (boarding plus daily training reinforcement) · $200/day Reactive Dogs tier · $250/day Special Needs (senior, medical, anxious). No surcharge on long weekends — Civic Holiday and Labour Day rates match weekday rates. Full payment upfront via e-transfer to support@dogfather.ca. The $50 phone evaluation is credited toward the first stay.
Where do I drop off and pick up?
Two options. Drop-off in Scarborough for owners coming from Toronto, North York, Markham, or East York. Drop-off at Paddock Estate in Pickering for owners coming from Durham, the 401-east corridor, or anyone happy with a 30-minute drive from downtown. Both locations are confirmed at booking — clients drive in from Toronto, Scarborough, Markham, North York, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Ajax, Whitby, and Oshawa.
Will my dog have air conditioning during the day?
Yes. The indoor decompression area is AC-cooled and used during peak afternoon heat (typically 12 PM to 5 PM in July and August). Outdoor yard rotation is structured around the heat — early-morning play, mid-day indoor rest with chew enrichment, late-evening yard time. The 20-acre Paddock property gives shaded options the rest of the day.
What do I need to bring for a summer stay?
Vaccine records (Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella) up to date, your dog's regular food (we don't switch in summer — diet changes plus travel stress = GI upset), a flat collar (no harness), leash, and any medications with dosing instructions. Optional: a worn t-shirt with your scent for the crate, and a favourite chew toy. We provide everything else — premium crates for rest periods + overnight, water bowls, beds, enrichment.
Lock in your summer dates
E-transfer to support@dogfather.ca holds the slot. Long-weekend dates fill 14 days out.
